NEW Rebus actor Richard Rankin has revealed he had his own brushes with the law as a teenager and was taken home by his dad's police officer colleagues.
The Outlander star admitted he was a troublemaker as a youth and left his father embarrassed by his antics.
He told how he was once caught scaling rooftops near his home in the west end of Glasgow and put in the back of a patrol car.
His dad Colin, who died&nbsp;in 2018, was an officer with Strathclyde Police and was left&nbsp;mortified when his fellow officers arrived with his son in tow.
Glaswegian Rankin, 40, is to play a young Inspector Rebus in the forthcoming TV reboot of Sir Ian Rankin's novels about the Edinburgh detective.
He said: "My father was a police&nbsp;scaling rooftops in the west end of Glasgow and what not."
Rankin follows John Hannah, Ken Stott, Brian Cox, Ron Donachie and Charles Lawson in portraying the detective.
Sir Ian said: "I'm looking forward to watching Richard bring the character to life - he's the perfect fit for the role, and not just because we share the same surname"
