Glasgow City Council may now take legal action, claiming the asylum system set up by Home Secretary Suella Braverman will leave thousands "destitute".
At an emergency meeting yesterday, councillors heard asylum seekers in Glasgow will have a fast-track decision&nbsp;by the end of this year on their cases.&nbsp;Under the new rules those rejected would have no recourse to UK funds for their upkeep while those accepted would immediately be ejected from Home Office-funded accommodation.
It is feared most of these fast-tracked asylum claimants will end up sleeping rough. The council would then have to find the cash to give them a place to&nbsp;stay under homelessness laws. Council leader Susan Aitken said: "For Glasgow, a sudden cost of around &pound;50million is simply unmanageable. The suffering caused to people who will be pushed into destitution is unimaginable."
The Home Office said: "The pressure on the asylum system has continued to grow, which is why we have taken immediate action to speed up processing times and cut costs for taxpayers."
