Rethink on trans kids treatment

MEDICAL treatment on trans kids is set to be reviewed in Scotland following a damning report into similar services in England.

The Cass Review into children's gender services found children had been let down by a lack of understanding around the long-term impacts of some treatments such as puberty blockers.

The report found NHS gender identity services for children and young people have been based on "remarkably weak evidence" and a lack of high-quality research.

Puberty blockers have now been banned in London's discredited Tavistock clinic.

However the same treatment is still available at the Sandyford clinic in Scotland run by NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde (NHSGGC).

Yesterday the Scottish Government said it will "take the time to consider the findings" of the Cass Review.
