Robertson sorry for Israeli talks

ANGUS Robertson has apologised for meeting a senior Israeli diplomat after a backlash from SNP members.

Nationalist MSPs reacted with fury after the External Affairs Secretary welcomed Daniela Grudsky to Edinburgh two weeks ago.

Hundreds of rank-and-file SNP members have quit the party in protest.

Robertson said: "Given the Israeli UK deputy ambassador had requested a meeting, it was an opportunity to express the Scottish Government's clear and unwavering position on an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, and I did exactly that.

"No one intended that this meeting be presented as legitimising the actions of the Israeli government in Gaza.
