RHYS MCCABE admitted he had been left-red-faced rampant Ayr buried his Diamonds for the seventh time on the trot to hit the summit.

Airdrie were taken apart by their bogey team as star man Jay Henderson and Anton Dowds both bagged doubles.

George Oakley also scored in an impressive success over a promotion rival so early in the campaign.

Diamonds boss McCabe predicted Ayr would be title contenders in the run-up.

And he won't be the least bit pleased to see them back that up in demolition style.

The player-boss said: "It was very tough to watch. The way we conceded the goals was very disappointing. We were cheap in possession, gifting them easy counter-attacks and it could have been more.
