A PLAN to destroy an urban green space to make way for a school has been slammed by campaigners.
One resident described the plans in Gartcosh, Lanarkshire, as an "ecological disaster" for the protected animals that live on the land.
Ex-Scots Guard Ralph Kelly, 56, said a football field and wild meadow near his home used by the community and a haven for wildlife is to be razed to make way for a new school with "no consideration" for nature. The green space has been untouched for more than 30 years turning it into an unofficial habitat for birds of prey and water voles, he said all protected under law.
