A Redfield &amp; Wilton strategies survey showed 52 per cent of the public want an immediate Scottish Parliament election.
Some 58 per cent of the 1000 people surveyed said they support an election within the next six months.
The poll was carried out between March 31 and April 1.
It comes after another survey suggested the gap between the SNP and Labour is closing.
Yousaf has faced increasing calls to call an election to prove he has a mandate to be in office since becoming First Minister at the end of March.
Scottish Labour leader Anas Sarwar called for an immediate election during Nicola Sturgeon's final First Minister's Questions.
He said: "Her successor inherits this woeful SNP record but they don't inherit her mandate."
An SNP spokesman said: "Humza Yousaf was elected First Minister by a majority of MSPs at the Scottish Parliament, as happened three times previously when there has been a change of leader for the party of Government.
