Autumn's barely begun as hills get a dusting of wintry white

SNOW FALL

SNOW fell on Scotland's hills yesterday - 11 days after the official end of summer.

Cold air from the Arctic collided with showers sweeping the north of the country, resulting in a covering of the white stuff at the Cairngorm Mountain ski resort.

Operators said that while snow is not unusual in September, it normally doesn't arrive until the end of the month.
