SCOTLAND'S top civil&nbsp;servant was told of the arrest of SNP former chief executive Peter Murrell before it was made public, emails show.
Scottish Government permanent secretary John-Paul Marks was contacted at 8am on April 5 by Chief Constable Sir Iain Livingstone.
Murrell was arrested at the home he shares with his wife, former SNP first minister Nicola&nbsp;Sturgeon, near Glasgow and questioned by detectives before being released without charge.
Police announced his arrest shortly before 9.30am that day.
The email was revealed as the Scottish Government published all of its correspondence with Police Scotland relating to the&nbsp;probe into SNP finances.&nbsp;Operation Branchform has been ongoing for more than two years and has seen the arrest of three senior SNP members including Murrell.
In an email to First Minister Humza Yousaf on April 5, Marks wrote: "Following agreement with the Crown Office, PS have&nbsp;arrested a suspect and taken him into custody to be interviewed under caution.
"I informed you after the event and after this PS action had occurred, as is routine.
