Јo Whiley thought she had a very special relationship with her friend and fellow Radio 2 DJ Steve Wright.

Steve was the father figure of Radio 2..1 guess I'm now the big sister Jo Whiley

The broadcasting legend, who died aged 69 in February, was always generous with his time, passing on his many years of experience when he regularly popped by to chat about her show and give advice.

But since his death, Jo has heard that big-hearted Steve also helped the likes of Vernon Kay and Zoe Ball.

"I don't think any of us realise but he was like it with all of us," she said. "What an amazing man to give so much of himself and his radio knowledge to us.

"Losing Steve was horrendous. It knocked us all for six because we always felt like he was going to be there. He was a bit like the father figure because he gave us so much advice, he was so caring and nurturing" While Steve was the station's father, Jo now realises her position within the Radio 2 family - soon to be joined by Paddy McGuinness - might have changed.
