STRICTLY star Shirley Ballas has hit out at criticism about contestants this year already having had dance training.
The BBC show's head judge said a small amount of tuition is not enough to get people to the level they need to be.
This year's line-up includes Angela Scanlon, 39, who performed in a professional dance show Shirl before she was a TV presenter.
Shirley, 62, said: "It's very unfair to single out anybody because most children had a little bit of training. If somebody goes to&nbsp;stage school for singing and acting, there's normally a bit of dance included.
"It's nothing like learning ballroom dancing." Shirley added that even some pro dancers would have to adjust.
She said: "If you take a jazz dancer, they dance on their own, unless they're in a group. [With] ballroom dancing, you have to learn to dance with a partner.
The forthcoming series of Strictly also includes Bad Education actor Layton Williams, 28, who played dancer Billy Elliot on stage in London's West End as a child.
