TEACHERS REJECT A NEW PAY OFFER

SCOTLAND'S teachers will continue strike action after rejecting the Scottish Government's latest pay offer.

A special meeting of the Educational Institute of Scotland's (EIS) salaries committee yesterday unanimously rejected the revised deal from Holyrood and local authorities body COSLĂ, and branded it only a "marginal improvement on previously rejected offers".

The offer included a six per cent pay rise in the current year and a further 5.5 per cent in the new financial year. The EIS wants a 10 per cent rise this year.

EIS general secretary Andrea Bradley said: "The six per cent value for 2022-23 is insufficient with the Consumer Price Index (CPI) currently 10.5 per cent.
