The quake escape

A SCOT has told how she escaped after an earthquake sparked a volcano alert.

Caitlin McLean was visiting her boyfriend Gisli Gunnarsson in Grindavik, Iceland, when they had to flee his home last Friday, packing only a few essential items, to stay with his mother in capital Reykjavik.

Police evacuated Grindavik after seismic activity moved towards it, with magma, or molten rock, thought to be extending under it, Iceland's Meteorological Office said.

Artist Caitlin, 34, captured the moment the furniture and light fixtures shook violently in Gisli's home.
