HUMZA Yousaf has made a lastditch appeal to Unison to call off strike action which will close schools across Scotland today.
The First Minister spoke out yesterday before union members walked out across 24 local authority areas for three days of industrial action leaving children with no school to go to and parents scrambling to arrange chlidcare.
The strike has been called in a row over pay for school support staff including janitors, cleaners and canteen workers.
Unison is the only union continuing with this week's strike action after the GMB and Unite both agreed to consult their members over a final pay offer.
Talks continued between union bosses and Cosla, which represents councils, yesterday but were not expected to avoid today's walk-out. Speaking on a campaign visit to Cambuslang ahead of next week's Rutherglen and Hamilton West by-election, the SNP leader urged Unison to consult its members over the latest pay offer.
