SCHOOLS were forced to close yesterday after a blast of snow and ice.
More than 80 schools and nurseries across Aberdeenshire, Moray and Highland council areas were shut on what should have been the first day back after Christmas.
It came after the country experienced its coldest night of the winter so far.
Temperatures dropped to -13.3C at Loch Glasgarnoch in the Highlands on Sunday night, according to Met Office data.
A lorry and two cars were involved in a horror crash on the A9 as the area was hit by snow and ice.
