TOXIC DRAMA COPS FALL ILL

POLICE officers took unwell as they evacuated homes after a "potentially hazardous substance" was found in a flat.

Seven officers and a Scottish Police Authority forensic service staff member were given medical treatment at the scene in Shettleston in the east end of Glasgow on Monday night.

A bomb disposal team was also called to the flat on Altyre Street shortly after 5pm and remained on the scene well into yesterday.

Residents, whose homes were evacuated as a precaution, were allowed to return home yesterday.

Around 80 people spent the night in Tollcross International Swimming Centre following the evacuation.
