Speaking on a campaign bus outside his home in Istanbul, Erdogan, 69, said: "I thank each member of our nation for entrusting me with the responsibility to govern this country once again.
"The only winner today is Turkey.
His opponent claimed the election was "the most unjust ever" with all state resources mobilised for Erdogan.
Kilicdaroglu, of the Republican People's Party, added: "We will continue to be at the forefront of this struggle until real democracy comes to our country."
Erdogan's victory came despite the crippling economic situation in the country and criticism over the slow response to the devastating earthquake, which killed more than 50,000 people in February.
