THE UK yesterday backed a United Nations Security Council call for a ceasefire in Gaza during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.
The resolution passed by 14-0 at the Security Council after Israel's ally the US did not use its veto.
It is the first time the body has called for a halt to the fighting.
But in response, Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu cancelled a high-level delegation visit to Washington.
