INTRODUCING 20mph speed limits in built-up areas will cut road casualties and create "safer streets", the Scottish Greens have claimed.
MSP Mark Ruskell, who has long championed efforts to impose the restriction, said a 20mph limit in Wales had seen traffic speed on urban roads fall by 3mph.
Speaking as the 20's Plenty for Scotland conference took place in Edinburgh, he hailed the planned roll-out of the speed limit under the SNP-Green government at Holyrood.
The new limit will replace 30mph signs on all "appropriate roads in built-up areas" in Scotland by 2025, according to the Bute House Agreement between the two parties.
