THE heartbroken family of a schoolboy killed by a dangerous driver are demanding tougher sentences for motorists who cause death on the roads after he was released early from prison.
Harley Smith, 16, was mowed down in 2020 by Sami Ula Jabbar, who was driving at 80mph in a 30mph zone in treacherous conditions.
But Harley's family were left raging when Jabbar served just two years of a five-year jail sentence.
Last night, Harley's sister Tasmin said: "We are the ones who have been given a life sentence, meanwhile he got a slap on the wrist." Harley was cycling home from his friend's house when he was run down by shopkeeper Jabbar in Falkirk in 2020.
Jabbar, 32, was speeding in dark and foggy conditions when he struck the teenager with his Mercedes.
He was on two bail orders at the time and already had a number of motoring convictions.
Harley, a sea cadet and pupil at St Mungo's High School in Grangemouth, suffered a serious head injury and died at the scene.
In August 2022, Jabbar was locked up for five years after he admitted causing death by dangerous driving - only to be given early release.
Tasmin, from Grangemouth, is now demanding tougher sentences for those who take a life behind the wheel.
The 24-year-old told the Record: "We feel completely failed by the justice system.
