Anger at failings that led to 'avoidable' deaths. Charges on 2017 blaze may not come until 2027

We lost loved ones in horrific way.. to greed, corruption, incompetence and négligence

ALL 72 Grenfell Tower victims died needlessly after a catalogue of complacency, greed and dishonesty, the damning report into the inferno revealed.

Grieving relatives yesterday told of their fury at the deadly failings that condemmed 54 adults and 16 children to horrific deaths, as they demanded those responsible face criminal charges.

The long-awaited inquiry report into the 2017 disaster by chairman Sir Martin Moore-Bick blamed a string of organisations and authorities.

They include the government for ignoring safety warnings over cladding on the West London tower, dishonest firms that flogged the flammable material and fire brigade chiefs who did not learn lessons from previous high-rise blazes.

He said: "All contributed to it in one way or another, in most cases through incompetence but in some through dishonesty and greed. The failings can be traced back over many years.

"The simple truth is that the deaths that occurred were all avoidable." But even as Sir Martin delivered his brutal assessment of the disaster seven years on, another blaze ripped through a tower block in Catford, South East London. No one was hurt.

And it comes just a week after another inferno in a high-rise at fire in Dagenham, East London.

As Keir Starmer apologised on behalf of the state for the deaths, Grenfell United campaign group chair Natasha Elcock said: "Human life was never a priority. We lost friends, neighbours and loved ones in the most horrific way, through greed, corruption, incompetence and negligence.
