ANIMAL experts have warned of "extreme breeding" among pets.Battersea Dog and Cats home said they were caring for more and more animals such as Coco, a two-year-old Bulldog and French Pekingese cross.She was taken to Battersea when her previous owners could no longer afford the medical care she required.Coco suffers from health issues including bowed front legs, a waddling gait, breathing difficulties and suspected heart arrhythmia.Battersea's head vet, Shaun Opperman, said: "It's deeply concerning animals like Coco are still being bred with such exaggerated traits that directly affect their ability to live a healthy life."It's so sad, as these traits are solely the result of human demand for certain looks."Coco has a new home, but Battersea says no dog should have to suffer due to having exaggerated characteristics that compromise welfare.The charity is calling on the Government to tighten the law and utilise existing enforcement powers to ensure breeding practices prioritise animal health over aesthetics.
