Skipper Buttler’s sorry start

JOS NOT WORKING

JOS BUTTLER’S introduction to white-ball captaincy slipped from bad to worse as England suffered another mauling.

The new skipper endured a second defeat in three days as India wrapped up the Vitality IT20 series by schooling the hosts at Edgbaston.

On a ground where England chased down a record total in a Test less than a week ago, Rohit Sharma and his men turned the tables in emphatic fashion.

At Southampton on Thursday, the hosts at least put up some resistance but, much to the delight of the majority of the crowd, never looked remotely capable of overhauling India’s total.

In the end, they went down by 49 runs – and were unable to exert any real pressure upon wily opponents who were too streetwise with bat and ball.
