It was a huge margin on F1’s second shortest track – and the beaming Brit, who caught up with Dutch football legend Ruud Gullit, smiled: “The car was amazing.
“We’ve got some upgrades on the car for the first time in a while and everything is working very well, so a big thanks to the team.”
Given Red Bull’s struggles at recent events, though, Verstappen was simply happy to have secured a spot on the front row.
