DESPERATE Tory MPs have hatched a plot to oust PM Rishi "Biggles" Sunak and replace him with Penny Mordaunt.
They are said to have crafted a plan titled "100 Days To Save Britain" and intend to encourage fellow MPs to back the move.
They are hoping fed-up Tories will submit letters of no confidence in Biggles amid fears of a bloodbath in this week's local elections.
The Conservatives' majority has dropped from 80 when Boris Johnson was in charge to 49 - and many fear a General Election wipeout.
The rebels would need 52 MPs to write to the back bench 1922 Committee to force a vote on the PM's future. An unnamed MP said: "The reality is that we are facing an extinction-level event. It's for colleagues to decide if they want to go down with the ship."
But pals of Ms Mordaunt called it "unhelpful idle speculation" and urged members to concentrate on Thursday's local elections.
Some senior Tories have come out fighting for Biggles with Sir Kenneth Baker, Margaret Thatcher's last chairman, calling the plan "a death wish for the party".
A Government source added: "The Prime Minister is focused on delivering on our plan and taking the fight to Labour."
