NEW laws are needed to stop AI chatbots recruiting users to terror groups like Al-Qaeda and Islamic State, a top lawyer has warned.
Jonathan Hall KC posed as a member of the public on website character.ai and chatted to several bots.
He said one AI, described as a senior leader of Islamic&nbsp;State, tried to recruit him to the terror group.
Hall, the UK's independent reviewer of terrorism laws, said the Government's new Online Safety Act is "unsuited to sophisticated and generative AI"!
He said: "It is hard to identify a person who could in law be responsible for chatbot-generated statements that encouraged terrorism.
"Investigating and prosecuting anonymous users is always hard, but if malicious or misguided individuals persist in training terrorist chatbots, then new laws will be needed."
In a statement, character.ai said while their tech is not perfect and still evolving, "hate speech and extremism are both forbidden by our terms".
