WILD animals like wolves and bears should be allowed to return to Europe to roam, a controversial report claims.
Boffins say the beasts should be reintroduced to abandoned farmlands.
They reckon deserted areas would find new life through "rewilding" which involves restoring "ravaged" landscapes to their wilderness without human involvement.
Nearly a quarter of Europe's landscape, 117million hectares, has rewilding potential, according to the study in the journal Current Biology.
