AMERICAN XL Bully dogs are being dumped or put down by "panicking" owners.
The breed is being added to the Dangerous Dogs list by the end of the year, the Prime Minister said.
Rishi Sunak announced the ban after Ian Price, 52, was killed by two dogs, believed to be XL Bullies, in Stonnall, Staffs. Six of the 10 fatal&nbsp;dog attacks in the UK in the past year have been linked to the breed.
But ex-police dog handler Mike Barnett, of Orion Dog Services, said the announcement caused confusion, adding: "At the moment there's people that think the ban has already happened and they're wanting to put their dogs to sleep.
"Some people realise it's not immediate but they're panicking!"
And dog behaviourist Debbie Connolly wrote: "I have seen alarming posts saying people have destroyed their dogs. Vets are refusing to treat them."&nbsp;
The Government has asked XL Bully owners "to come forward" as they may be able to apply for an exemption certificate for their pet.
