<p><strong>TORY MP Crispin Blunt has been arrested on suspicion of rape and the possession of controlled substances. </strong></p>
<p>Former justice minister Blunt identified himself as the man that Surrey Police detained in Horley on Wednesday before his release on conditional bail.</p>
<p>The MP for Reigate called the arrest &ldquo;unnecessary&rdquo; as he was &ldquo;cooperating fully&rdquo; with an ongoing investigation, and is &ldquo;confident&rdquo; that he will not be charged.</p>
<p>Blunt, 63, has had the Tory whip suspended and has been asked to stay away from Parliament, it was&nbsp;understood last night. He said he was interviewed twice over an incident, the first time&nbsp;three weeks ago when he &ldquo;initially reported my concern over extortion&rdquo;.</p>

<p>Blunt confirmed his arrest on social media, adding: &ldquo;The arrest was unnecessary as I remain ready to cooperate fully with the investigation that I am confident&nbsp;will end without charge.&rdquo;</p>
<p>The MP said he would not comment again until police inquiries are complete. Blunt served in the Ministry of Justice and&nbsp;was responsible for prisons and probation from 2010 to 2012.</p>
<p>The Conservative party declined to comment.</p>
