The temperature was predicted to reach 32C today amid a burst of “very warm, locally hot weather,” the Met Office said. This would beat the previous high for the year when the mercury hit 31.9C at St James’s Park in central London on July 19.
However, the hot spell may be shortlived. A yellow thunderstorm warning has been issued by the Met Office covering London and the south of England from midday tomorrow until midnight.
