The two-time champion started nervously in the all-British encounter against Ryan Peniston but, after saving two break points early in the first set, ran away with the match 6-3, 6-0, 6-1.
Murray hit just eight unforced errors in the last two sets and was serving well with a revised action to seal a first straight-sets win at Wimbledon for six years. He conceded the least amount of games here in a match here since 2014.
Following the win, he said: “I’m playing well enough to beat most of the players in the draw if I play well. Physically, I feel good.”
Murray has earned a reputation for marathon matches at the grand slams, particularly since his return from injury, including a five-set epic at the 2021 US Open and again at this year’s Australian Open.
