TWITTER has temporarily closed its offices after claims that a demand from Elon Musk's that staff work "long hours at high intensity" sparked a wave of resignations.
An internal memo sent to staff gave no reason for the closures and said the offices would reopen on Monday.
But Zoe Schiffer, managing editor of the tech site Platformer, tweeted: "We're hearing this is because Elon Musk and his team are terrified employees are going to sabotage the company. Also, they're still trying to figure out which Twitter workers they need to cut access for."
The internal memo asked staff to refrain "from discussing confidential company information on social media, with the press or elsewhere".
But that did not stop many taking part in a poll on the workplace app Blind, which verifies users through their work email addresses and allows them to share information anonymously.
