JOINING THE GLOBAL equity sell-off following the US Federal Reserve's hawkish surprise of fewer rate cuts in 2025, benchmark indices fell 1% on Thursday, marking their fourth consecutive session of decline.

After opening more than 1,100 points lower at 79,029, the index initially recovered half the losses. However, consistent selling pressure pushed it down further, and it closed at 79,218.05, down 964.15 points or 1.20%. Similarly, the NSE's Nifty dropped 247.15 points or 1.02%, closing at 23,951.70.
