The name of Junaid Ramzan Bhat, a Lashkar militant from south Kashmir's Kulgam, surfaced after the police identified him as one of the two attackers from the CCTV footage of the incident.
Police said Bhat was killed during a gunfight in Dachigam forests on the city outskirts.
On Monday evening, a joint team of the police and security forces cordoned off the Dachigam forests after inputs about the presence of militants.
They said that as the joint team was searching the area, they came under fire, which security forces returned, leading to a gunfight.
Police said a militant was killed in the gunfight and later identified him as Bhat.
