The order, which was placed on the sidelines of the biennial Wings India 2024, Asia's largest civil aviation event being held at Hyderabad, comprises 737 MAX 10 and 737 MAX 8-200 single aisle jets. Akasa expects the aircraft to be delivered within the next eight years.

With Akasa's latest order, the three domestic carriers the other two being IndiGo and Air India - together have ordered a total of 1,120 planes in less than one year, a sign that the country's civil aviation market is growing at a fast pace. If IndiGo's earlier order is taken into account, the total pending deliveries of the domestic carriers stands at 1,676 aircraft.

In 2023, domestic air passenger traffic touched an all-time high of 152 million. During the year, Air India and IndiGo together placed orders for 970 planes with Boeing and Airbus.

WHILE AIR INDIA ordered 470 planes-250 from Airbus and 220 from Boeing-in February last year, IndiGo announced an order with Airbus in June to buy 500 narrowbody planes.
