Slugfest Over Renaming Mysuru Road After CM
Hindustan Times Bengaluru|December 26, 2024
Political slugfest has erupted over the proposal by the Mysore city corporation (MCC) to rename a portion of the KRS Road after chief minister Siddaramaiah has drawn strong objections, with critics pointing to his alleged involvement in a land allotment scam.

BENGALURU:

The proposal, initiated by Chamaraja Congress MLA Harish Gowda, aims to rename the stretch from the Lakshmi Venkataramanaswamy Temple to the Outer Ring Road junction as "Siddaramaiah Arogya Marga". The MCC council approved the decision on November 22, and a public notice was issued on December 13, inviting feedback within 30 days.

Mysuru, Siddaramaiah's home district, is a significant political base for the CM, who is currently serving his second term.

The Janata Dal (Secular) has condemned the renaming plan, calling it a betrayal of Mysuru's heritage.

"There is no elected board in the Mysuru city corporation. The officials appointed by the Congress government have decided to name the road after Siddaramaiah as they are indebted to him," the party said in a post on X.
