School enrolment dips 4.98% in 2 years: Report

At least 4.98% dip was seen in enrolment rates in schools in Rajasthan in the last two years, revealed a recent report of the Unified District Information System for Education (UDISE) by the ministry of education, despite the state adding 1,384 new schools.

According to the latest UDISE-plus data 2023-24, which was published on January 2, Rajasthan received 16,786,065 enrolments in 2023-24, which was 17,707,162 in 2022-23, and 17,667,510 in 2021-22 session. Meanwhile, the number of schools in the state was increased from 106,373 in 21-22 to 106,670 in 22-23, and 107,757 in 23-24, the report stated.

A further classification of the report also revealed that the enrolments among the Muslims in the state saw a 1.1% decline from 2022 to 2023, however, the figure for the general, SC, ST, and OBC categories remained largely the same.

The enrolment rate for general category and SC category were 16.8% and 19.6% respectively in both 2022-2023 and 2023-2024 sessions, while the ST enrolments increased to 14.6% in 2023-2024 from 14.5% in the previous 2022-2023 session, and the OBC enrolment rate declined to 49% in 2023-2024 from earlier 49.1% in 2022-2023, as per the report.
