DEHRADUN: Uttarakhand police will launch a verification drive of madrasas after complaints over alleged illegal operations, an official said.

The action comes after instructions from the chief minister's office to director general of police Deepam Seth, said Inspector General of Police (Crime and Law and Order) and Uttarakhand police spokesperson Nilesh Anand Bharne.

All district magistrates have been asked to form a panel, comprising all departments concerned, for the verification drive.

All districts will submit a report within a month, he said.

Bharne added: "The chief minister's office has given instructions to the Uttarakhand police that they have received information about some madrasas operating illegally in the state and asked to conduct a thorough investigation of their registration. We will launch a verification drive of madrasas to identify the illegally operated madrasas. We will also examine their funding details. We will also examine if children from outside the state are studying in madrasas in the state."
