DEHRADUN: Udham Singh Nagar Police arrested two people after suspicious transactions worth ₹33.23 crore were detected in their accounts in a branch of Canara Bank in Rudrapur, police said. The accused were given a certain amount by a cyber fraud gang to open the bank accounts so that they could receive the money defrauded from people in these accounts, the police said.
The FIR against the two accused - Mohammad Saim, and Shareek Khan of Rudrapur - was registered at Rudrapur police station on Friday under section 318 (4) of the BNS on the complaint of the branch manager. One account holder runs a community service centre and another is a scrap dealer in Rudrapur, said police.
Manikant Mishra, senior superintendent of police (SSP), US Nagar, said, "It came to light that the accused were given a certain amount by a cyber fraud gang to open the bank accounts so that they could receive the money defrauded from people in these accounts."
Another police official said, "The kingpin of the cyber fraud gang lives in Australia but is currently in Udham Singh Nagar. We are trying to trace him. A lookout circular will be issued against him soon."
