JAIPUR/BARMER: Amid an ongoing protest across the nine new districts which were annulled by the BJP government on December 28, the Congress has filed a petition in the Rajasthan HC seeking to restore the status of Gangapur city as a district which was formed carving out of Karauli and Sawai Madhopur districts.
"We appealed the court on Sunday to reinstate the status of Gangapur City district. The region qualifies in all parameters to get a separate district status. The decision was taken based on a political agenda. It will affect the common lives," said Ramkesh Meena, Gangapur City MLA and deputy leader of opposition in the Rajasthan assembly. He is one of the eight petitioners.
The petition, a copy of which was seen by HT, further read, "Hence, the petitioners seek to restore and allow the said newly created district as it is and not to disturb the new district administration, respective sub-division and tehsils thereunder."
The first hearing of the case is scheduled on Friday.
