Ex-coal secy among 6 acquitted in 2012 case

A Delhi court has acquitted former Union coal secretary HC Gupta, and five others, including two senior officials from the ministry of coal (MoC), in a high-profile corruption and criminal conspiracy case related to a coal block allocation in Odisha in 2012.

NEW DELHI:

Special judge (PC Act) (CBI) for coal block cases, Sanjay Bansal, delivered the 341-page verdict on Wednesday, exonerating all six accused of charges including criminal conspiracy, cheating, breach of trust under the Indian Penal Code (IPC), and provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act. Those acquitted include Gupta, former MoC officials KC Kropha and KC Samria, Navabharat Power Pvt Ltd (NPPL), its managing director Y Harish Chandra Prasad, and chairman P Trivikrama Prasad.
