KOLKATA/NEW DELHI: West Bengal fishermen released by Bangladeshi authorities alleged that they were stripped, tied and assaulted by the navy personnel of the neighboring country after they were caught in their waters having accidentally crossed the maritime boundary.
"On October 16 evening, our trawler accidentally entered Bangladesh's territorial waters. But within minutes we were intercepted by the Bangladeshi Navy," Tejendra Das (49), a fisherman from Kakdwip in South 24 Parganas district said. "We were tied up with our hands behind our back. Throughout the night we were tortured, beaten up with cane lathis, kicked and abused."
