RAIPUR: An Intelligence Bureau (IB) officer was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly issuing a hoax bomb threat on an aircraft, 25 days after an IndiGo flight from Nagpur to Kolkata with 187 passengers on board was forced to make an emergency landing in Raipur.The accused, who was traveling on the flight on November 14, allegedly gave false information to the pilot, saying he had intel that there was a bomb on the plane. After landing at the airport in Chhattisgarh, the plane was checked by security personnel but nothing suspicious was found. The IB officer, Animesh Mondal, who gave information about the presence of a bomb on the aircraft was later arrested by Raipur police.Mondal's lawyer Faizal Rizvi said that his client was an IB officer and when he boarded the flight he had got the information from a source. However, police said that a joint team of the IB and state police questioned Mondal and found that the information was concocted, therefore he was arrested in accordance with the law. "His wife contacted me a few days back and also presented documents that Mondal was an IB officer. My client was booked under provisions of the Suppression of Unlawful Acts Against Safety of the Civil Aviation Act, 1982," said Rizvi.
