NEW DELHI: The standing committee on rural development has said that the continued suspension of funds under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) in West Bengal has resulted in "severe consequences" including a sharp increase in distress migration and disruptions in the rural development initiatives.

The latest report of the committee, headed by Congress MP Saptagiri Sankar Ulaka, was presented in the Lok Sabha on Thursday, where it observed that no central funds have been released for West Bengal under MGNREGA and various other schemes for financial year 2022-23 and 2023-24.
