PATNA: Be it the formal inauguration of Nalanda University, foundation laying of Darbhanga AIIMS, or the much-needed thrust on investment, it all happened during the year, which started with the change of government being led by Nitish Kumar as the chief minister. The year also witnessed transformation in the sporting arena with the state for the first time playing host to any international sporting event.
New campus of Nalanda University opened Bihar's historic connection with educational excellence got reaffirmed when Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the new campus of Nalanda University at Rajgir. Conceived in collaboration between India and East Asia Summit (EAS) countries, the varsity has two academic blocks, 40 classrooms to accommodate 1900 students and hostel facility for 550 pupils. Heads of missions of 17 countries attended the inauguration ceremony, which was also attended by Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar.
The original Nalanda University, established around 1600 years ago, is considered to be among the first residential universities in the world. The ruins of Nalanda were declared as a UN Heritage Site in 2016.
