Amia Kunwar's latest book brings back the story of Imroz's love for Amrita Pritam
Hindustan Times Punjab|January 02, 2025
All the world loves a lover, a quote wrongly attributed to Shakespeare as it was actually said by essayist Ralph Waldo Emerson in the context of the Bard of Avon's plays. Moving forward from Shakespearean times to the 50s, Doris Day's song, Everybody loves a lover, I am a lover, everybody loves me, still gives goose pimples.
Nirupama Dutt

Away from vocal West to Indian soil and Punjabi protagonists, the story that charmed the imagination of the people was the live-in romance of poet Amrita Pritam and painter Imroz. This coming together had many variants as judged by patriarchal Punjabi culture. Imroz was younger to Pritam by seven years. While Imroz was single, Pritam was married and mother to a daughter and son. She was more famous and it was a union sans the bond of marriage. Last, but not least, it was Imroz who moved into her house and not vice versa, and they lived together till Pritam passed away in 2005.
