JAMSHEDPUR: "Weekly review meetings will be held at the level of the director general of police (DGP) with 16 districts via video conferencing henceforth. We have sent directives to this effect to the SSPs and SPs of all these 16 districts. The range DIGs concerned will ensure investigation, status reports, and other relevant documents related to the anti-Naxal operations in these districts during the review meetings," Amol Venukant Homkar, Jharkhand inspector general of police (IG, Operation), told HT on Sunday.Homkar said the objective of the review meetings is to improve coordination, intelligence sharing, and effective execution of operations to further improve and intensify operations against banned outfits like the Communist Party of India (Maoist), PLFI, JJMP, and other splinter groups."Naxalism is on the verge of extinction in Jharkhand. State police have achieved great success, and only 5-10% of Naxalites are now active in some pockets. Operations are ongoing to wipe them out," Anurag Gupta, Jharkhand DGP, said."We have had major successes in anti-Naxal operations across the state in 2024, with the arrest of 244 Naxalites and the neutralisation of nine Maoists, including a zonal commander, a sub-zonal commander, an area commander, and six members of the CPI (Maoist). Twenty-four Naxalites have surrendered their weapons during the year. The Naxalites are now left in only West Singhbhum district, where operations are ongoing," added Homkar.
