Govt seeks new Sebi chief as Buch's term nears end

The Ministry of Finance's Department of Economic Affairs has invited applications for the post of chairperson of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) as the term of the current chair Madhabi Puri Buch is set to end on February 28.

NEW DELHI: Maharashtra topped the list of states by collecting little over ₹1.90 lakh crore of compensation cess under the Goods and Services Tax (GST) regime, on items such as automobiles, coal, aerated water and tobacco products from July 2017 to September 2024, followed by Uttar Pradesh (₹93,968 crore) and Karnataka (₹82,331 crore), according to government data.

Odisha and Tamil Nadu were only other states to collect over ₹50,000 crore compensation cess since July 1, 2017. While Odisha's total revenue was ₹52,797 crore, Tamil Nadu collected ₹51,428 crore in the same period. Coal-rich Chhattisgarh collected ₹48,088 crore followed by Telangana (₹44,433 crore), Madhya Pradesh (₹43,865 crore), Gujarat (₹40,925 crore), and Jharkhand (₹40,351 crore), and Haryana saw a total collection of ₹36,010 crore.
