According to transport department officials, the roadways bus with 25 people on board was travelling from Pithoragarh to Haldwani via Bhimtal. Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed his grief over the incident and announced â¹10 lakh ex gratia to the next of kin of each of the deceased and â¹3 lakh to those grievously injured in the accident and â¹15,000 to â¹25,000 to those sustaining minor injuries.
"On Wednesday around 1.45 pm, information was received from the district control room that a roadways bus fell into a gorge near Bhimtal, following which rescue teams of SDRF (state disaster relief force) left for the spot from Nainital and Khairna," Nainital senior superintendent of police (SSP) PN Meena said.
