GURUGRAM: The Haryana State Biodiversity Board, in collaboration with Wetlands International, launched the Asia Bird Census 2025 at Sultanpur Bird Sanctuary on Saturday, aiming to raise awareness about biodiversity protection amid growing environmental challenges.The event featured the release of a booklet on wetland birds of Haryana, and included guests such as board chairman Dr Ranbir Singh Johar, biodiversity expert Dr TK Roy, and state forest, environment, and industry minister Rao Narbir Singh, along with principal chief conservator of Forests Dr Vivek Saxena and chief conservator Anant Pandey.After the formal proceedings, attendees toured the sanctuary to learn about migratory birds' role in maintaining biodiversity. The tour was led by forest conservator Subhash Chandra and district forest officer Ramkumar Jangra, with contributions from environmentalists Anil Gandas and Inderjit Singh."Due to the foggy weather, the Asian Waterbird Census began later than planned, starting after 11am, wrapping up in the late hours. As a result, the census data will be delayed," said Roy.Minister Singh, meanwhile, said, "Protecting wildlife and biodiversity is essential for our survival," highlighting the importance of collective action for safeguarding habitats.
